Convert HTML to clean Markdown.
Paste HTML code, or copy formatted text from any web page and paste it straight in. You get tidy Markdown with lists, tables and code blocks, and nothing leaves your browser.
Markdown
What gets converted
Text
Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code, links and images, with special characters escaped so they do not turn into formatting by accident.
Lists and quotes
Nested bullet and numbered lists (keeping the start number), task-list checkboxes, and block quotes at any depth.
Code and tables
Code blocks keep their language from a language-js class. Tables become neat GitHub-style tables with column alignment.
Everything else
Scripts and styles are dropped. Layout tags such as div and span are unwrapped. Tags with no Markdown form can optionally stay as HTML.
Questions people ask
How do I convert HTML to Markdown?
Paste your HTML code on the left, or switch to “Paste rich text” and paste formatted content copied from a web page, Word or Google Docs. The Markdown appears on the right instantly, ready to copy or save as an .md file.
Can I paste a whole web page?
Yes. Paste the page source and scripts, styles and tracking code are removed automatically, and layout tags are unwrapped so you get the readable content. For a clean result, copy only the article text and use “Paste rich text”.
Which Markdown flavour is produced?
Standard CommonMark plus the GitHub extras most people expect: tables, task lists and strikethrough. Turn those options off if your Markdown tool does not support them.
What happens to HTML that Markdown cannot express?
By default the tag is removed and its text is kept. Switch on “Keep HTML that has no Markdown form” to leave tags such as sup, sub, mark, details or video in place, since Markdown allows inline HTML.
Why are some characters shown with a backslash?
Characters such as *, _, [ and # have special meaning in Markdown, so they are escaped (for example \*) to stay literal text. Turn off “Escape special characters” if you prefer cleaner but riskier output.
Is my content uploaded?
No. The HTML is parsed in a safe, inactive document inside your browser. Scripts never run and nothing is sent to a server.
